James N. Kienitz Wilkins’ film, Best Year Ever, lays bare the multiplicity of experience possible in children’s bedtime stories. The film is effectively a contemporary take on Richard Scarry’s book, Best Busy Year Ever, which depicts various animal families enjoying each of the four seasons. Best Year Ever was created in 2020 as a response to Covid-19 and what felt like a lost year, spent inside, devoid of all the activities portrayed in Scarry’s book. (High Line Channel)
